What's New in Business Central Update 28.5 and Preparing for Update 29.0

October is just about here, and along with it the deployment of minor update 28.5 and the upcoming deployment of 29.0 (2026 Release Wave 2). Check out this video where I review 28.5 and help plan for the upcoming 29.0 major release, or continue reading below for a recap of the changes.
Here is the link to view 28.5 details on Microsoft Learn: Update 28.5 for Business Central 2026 Release Wave 1.
28.5 is a relatively minor update, with the typical platform hotfixes, application hotfixes, and localization hotfixes.
Additionally, there are 2 new features included with this update. The first is specific to Spain. The second is much more meaningful to the global Business Central community - Use AI Resources for your Copilot Extensions. In a nutshell, this new features provides the ability to build new apps within Business Central that can leverage AI using an Azure Open AI subscription that is fully integrated with the Business Central environment. This provides many benefits, including easier setup, integration, maintenance, and governance. For more details on these benefits, click on the link above.
Finally, as 29.0 approaches later this month, be sure to schedule the update of your Production and Sandbox environment(s) to provide your team with an opportunity to test the new update prior to deploying to your production environment. A high-level overview of the steps to do so are included within the video.
And for a short summary of the key new features to be included with 29.0, please check out my update from last month. On this post, I provide a listing of these new expected features: What's New in Business Central 28.4 and 29.0 Preview.
